Wincanton Racecourse has been voted the South West’s
Best Small Racecourse by the Racegoers Club, for an impressive
16th time in just 17 years.
Competition for the annual award was
particularly stiff this year and the win is a well deserved
accolade for the Course after £220,000
was spent last summer on further upgrades to the Course. Improvements
included a track-widening programme, which has ensured an increased
fixture capacity for the 2007/8 season and the levelling of take
offs and landings. These improvements and refurbishments are
part of a three year long strategy to enhance Wincanton Racecourse’s
offer to race-goers, jockeys, horses, owners and trainers.
Wincanton Racecourse has seen a year-on-year increase in crowd
numbers, spurred by the excellent entertainment and feature race
days that appeal to those wanting a day out with a difference,
whilst at the same time securing the support of regular race
goers with their commitment to offering top quality racing. With
exhilarating feature race days, such as the Countryside Day,
Boxing Day and Badger Ales Day, visitors are provided with thrilling,
well-respected racing and top-class entertainment, often including
live music and fireworks.
Steven Clarke, the Course’s Managing Director, is delighted
to have scooped the award for another year: “As this award
is voted only by the race goers themselves, it is extremely important
to us as a course. We try to ensure there is something for everyone
here at Wincanton, whether it’s their first time at the
races, or they are a seasoned race goer. Our commitment to continual
improvement runs throughout the whole team at the Course and
this award is a great recognition of the work that they all do.”
Wincanton Racecourse’s next race meeting will be held
on Thursday 5th April.
