The March 8th raceday at Wincanton Racecourse saw a great day’s
racing with Philip Hobbs and Richard Johnson landing a brilliant
double on the card, including the feature race of the day;
the Coors Handicap Steeplechase. Local trainer Paul Nicholls
also saw success with his one runner winning the last race
of the day. The crowd was up on last year and the track was
in good shape despite 4 inches of rain in just two weeks,
which had unfortunately forced many cancellations at other
racecourses in the South during the week.
The next raceday, March 19th, is scheduled to include another
action packed day with a full, seven strong race card. The
feature race of the day is the Elite Novices Hurdle, which
has a prize fund of £5,000 and will be run over two
miles and six furlongs. The remaining six races bring the
total prize fund up to a total of £44,000 for the day.
Elite Racing are again showing their support by sponsoring
the Course.
Steven Clarke, Managing Director of Wincanton Racecourse,
said: “This is a new fixture on our racing calendar
and we’re anticipating it being a popular one as it
coincides with our two for one entry offer.”
